Donald Edward James Sr., age 87, passed away in his home, surrounded by loved ones, on December 10, 2021.

Don was born on August 21, 1934 in Portsmouth, Ohio to William and Mildred James.  He was the oldest of 4 children.  He attended Portsmouth High School where he graduated in 1952.  Shortly after graduation, Don married the love of his life, Bonnie Mae Nickles, on September 13, 1952.  They were later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple with their young family in 1963 after joining the LDS church.  He attended and graduated from Debry Electronics.  He worked in Portsmouth for 29 years at Dayton Walter Foundry.

Don was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  He loved the gospel and had much pride in fulfilling his callings and duties as a member.  He loved serving as the Branch President for 17 years.  He also held many more positions, including being on the High Council.

Don loved the game of baseball, both watching and coaching.  He coached youth baseball teams for 15 years.  He influenced many young men and had a strong impact on the community during those years. Don was also a licensed HAM Radio operator and enjoyed connecting with people all over the world. He liked collecting model trains and building his collection throughout his life. Don also enjoyed gardening and could often be found out in the yard, tending to his garden. He was very proud of the produce he grew and enjoyed sharing it with others. He especially took great pride in the large onions that grew in his garden.

After retiring, Don and Bonnie decided to move to Utah to be closer to their children and grandchildren, as many of them had moved out west.  Don loved being near family, and hosting yearly 4th of July picnics and Christmas parties.  He loved living in Utah, but forever held a special place in his heart for Ohio.  He went back several times to visit siblings and other relatives.

Don is survived by his loving wife Bonnie, his sister Carol (Ron) Adams, and his children Gail (Steve) Turner, Daniel (Youlonda) James, Brian (Beng Ling) James, and Brent James.   He is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Mildred, sister Bettie, brother Arlyn, son Donald Edward James Jr. and grandson Brad Turner.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Etzel for his care and compassion.
