Our beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother, James Bryce Syndergaard, 85, passed away at his home in Ferron on December 11, 2021 from natural causes.

He was born April 3, 1936 in Mt. Pleasant, Utah to Alden C. and Laurella Spencer Syndergaard.  Married Dang Sirewerepong in Korat, Thailand and they had one son Jamie Charles prior to their divorce.  On January 17, 1981, he married Mickey Rae Johnson in Salt Lake City; their marriage was later solemnized in the Manti Temple.

After graduating from North Sanpete High School, James Bryce joined the U.S. Air Force. He proudly served as a Military Security Police Officer for three tours during Viet Nam and was awarded the Bronze Star for meritorious service.  One of his finest achievements while serving  was being a guard at the Berlin Wall during John F. Kennedy’s Ich Bin Berliner Speech.  His tour of duty took him to 160 countries and eventually retired with 21 years of dedicated service to his country.

After the service, he moved to Ferron, Utah in Emery County where he worked in security at the Hunter Power Plant in Castle Dale.  After a few years, he went to work as an underground electrician for Wilberg Mine.  He was a retired member of the United Mine Workers of America with 20 years of service.  Bryce was a longtime member of the American Legion Post #42 where he was the commander for several years.

He, along with his loving wife Mickey by his side, enjoyed many years of traveling and camping.  He also enjoyed fishing, especially in Alaska!  Bryce was an avid reader who especially loved science fiction thrillers.  One of his greatest joys was spending time with family and friends.  He will be dearly missed by all those who had the privilege of knowing and loving him.

Survivors include his wife, Mickey; son, Jamie Charles; step-sons, Curtis (Shari) Neilson, Ogden, Glenn (Debra) Neilson, East Carbon; brother, Que (Gayle) Syndergaard, Salt Lake City; sister-in-law, Karen (Marv), Mt. Carmel, UT; grandchildren, Bryce (Denise) Neilson, CA, Timothy Neilson (Jimmy Bowker), Price, Joshua Simpson (Justin), East Carbon; three great-grandchildren, and an extended family of five grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, as well as many loving nieces and nephews.
