The Emery Spartan and Carbon Dino girl’s basketball teams made the top ten of the initial RPI rankings released by the Utah High School Activities Association (UHSAA). The Lady Spartans landed at the No.4 spot and the Lady Dinos No. 9.
Judge Memorial took the No. 1 spot. Richfield, Grantsville , Emery and Summit Academy rounded out the top 5.
Emery sits at 10-2 this season. The Lady Spartans lost back to back games to Ridgeline and Fruita Monument at a tournament in Vernal and have rattled off seven in a row since.
Carbon carry with them an 8-4 record. Taking losses from No. 3 Grantsville, the No. 8 Morgan Trojans, the No. 15 team in 5A Uintah, and the No.1 team in 4A Ridgeline.
The RPI will now be updated weekly and will then be used for seeding in the state championship tournament in the middle of February.
The RPI standings are determined by three statistically categories:
*MWP (Modified Winning Percentage): Divide the number of possible points by the number of total available points from games played accounting for the adjustment between classifications.
*OWP (Opponents Winning Percentage): Average of the winning percentage of a team’s opponent.
*OOWP (Opponents’ Opponents Winning Percentage): Same process as OWP except the calculation is with the opponents of the team’s opponent.
