The initial RPI rankings for girls basketball came out last Thursday for all classifications. The RPI is compiled by the Utah High School Activities Association and then updated throughout the season. It will be used to place teams at the state championships in February. When they were published Pinnacle was in the No. 18 spot one place ahead of Green River at No. 19.
The Lady Panthers are sitting at 4-6 currently and have lost their last three, most recently on Dec. 21 against Tintic. They are being led this season by Heather Kerr, a freshman who is averaging just under nine points this season. They will get back on the court on Tuesday Jan. 4, as they welcome Grand to Price. Game time is set for 7 p.m..
The Lady Pirates hold a 1-7 record and are in a little slump of their own losing their last two. Green River dresses just five players this season and has had to forfeit some games due to injury, but they still show up and give it everything they have. They will be back on the floor Friday Jan. 7 to take on Whitehorse on the road. Their next home contest will be on Jan. 22 when they face the same Whitehorse team in Green River.
The RPI standings are determined by three statistically categories:
*MWP (Modified Winning Percentage): Divide the number of possible points by the number of total available points from games played accounting for the adjustment between classifications.
*OWP (Opponents Winning Percentage): Average of the winning percentage of a team’s opponent.
*OOWP (Opponents’ Opponents Winning Percentage): Same process as OWP except the calculation is with the opponents of the team’s opponent.
