It’s time for another Huntington City update with Mayor Leonard Norton who took time to speak over the telephone with Castle Country Radio to highlight some of the city’s accomplishments this year.
Big on everyone’s mind over the summer was water usage and the city did wonderfully well in doing their part. “You know I have to commend our citizens we did exceptionally well water year this year we were able to do what we’re doing; we were able to get through the whole season with water not have to many hard restrictions. I want to commend our citizens for what they did, they did a good job this year,” stated Mayor Norton. Like most folks in the area, we are all hoping for a good winter of snow so that our reservoirs can get full.
The annual Heritage Days event that takes place in July was a huge success for the city. They were able to move to a new location, which was at the Middle School football field, to provide more room for visitors to enjoy all the festivities. “We had some real good feedback. Everyone enjoyed the openness of it a little more, better room to move and enjoy it. Couple things we did learn we’re going to incorporate this year a little differently but it should be at the same place and the same time. It’ll be a Saturday, Monday excuse me, holiday, this year. It should be a good program. We had a great one last year, good entertainment, we’re kind of looking forward to doing that again next year,” said Mayor Norton.
There were many construction projects that took place over the summer, the city’s is pleased that they were all completed in a timely manner. “We had everything our sidewalks, our curb and gutter, and our roads we did all came in a little under budget or right on budget got them all completed and we have nothing carrying over for the next year. It was a good construction year, we got some work done and everything looks good,” said Mayor Norton. City officials were very satisfied with the outcome of the construction projects especially staying under budget on most of the projects.
