
The Spartan wrestling team traveled to Vernal over the weekend to compete in one of the largest wrestling tournaments in the Intermountain West, the Tournament of Champions. With teams from Utah, Colorado and Wyoming, over 38 schools were represented. The Spartans had four wrestlers place and as a team finished in the eighth spot.
The wrestlers are just getting down to business as the second half of the season is in full swing with just one weekend tournament left on the schedule and matches with Union, Maple Mountain and Duchesne to round out the season.
Host team Uintah grabbed the top spot at the meet with Juab, Payson, Moffat (Colorado) and Pinedale (Wyoming), rounding out the top five. Two more teams from Colorado Meeker and Fruita Monument finished just ahead of Emery.
Byron Christiansen at 132 pounds continued his great season claiming a second place finish at the meet. At the 106 pound class Monte Christiansen earned a fourth place overall finish for the Spartans.
Maddex Christman at 190 pounds grabbed a fifth place finish and Hayden Christiansen at 113 ended the weekend in sixth.
Christman and Byron Christiansen will travel to the All Star Duels at Utah Valley University. This is an invitational where each classification as well as a “Wild Card” division will be represented. Christman will wrestle in the 3A class and Christiansen will drop down to 126 pounds and wrestle under the “Wild Card”.
Then the team will be back at it on the road for the Rumble on January 14 & 15 .
The wrestling team will be back at the friendly confines of the Spartan Center on January 25, when they welcome in Maple Mountain on Senior Night.
