Our father and grandfather, John (Larry) Stevenson passed away at home, surrounded by family on Sunday, January 9, 2022. Larry was a devoted father, grandfather, and friend. His world revolved around his children and grandchildren. He was born to Harold Thomas Stevenson and Mary Stella Stevenson in Dragerton, UT on January 12, 1949. Larry was raised in Dragerton. He worked summers for the railroad while attending East Carbon High School. After graduating from high school, Dad went to work for Kaiser Steel in the Sunnyside coal mine. In 1970, Larry was drafted to serve in the United States Army, overseas in the Vietnam conflict. He served his country honorably and in association with his service in Vietnam he was awarded a Bronze Star for “Meritorious achievement in ground operations against hostile forces”. After being honorably discharged from his military service, Larry returned home to Dragerton, where he resumed work in the coal mines and started a family. After working for years in the coal mines, He moved to Boise, ID, and began working for the Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) as a mine inspector. He always had great respect for his coal-mining brothers and sisters and was passionate about advancing measures for their safety in mining. In 2008, Larry retired from MSHA and returned home to Dragerton to be close to family and friends.

He is survived by daughters, Amber Stevenson, Haley Stevenson both of East Carbon; son, Adam (Jill) Stevenson, Payson; along with seven grandchildren.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents; brother; sister; and many aunts and uncles who he loved so much.

Funeral service, Friday, January 14, 2022, 11:00 a.m., at Mitchell Funeral Home in Price, UT., where the family will receive friends beginning at 9:30 a.m. Interment, East Carbon City Cemetery.
