This week’s Carbon School District weekly update shines a light on the Castle Valley Center. Principal Amy Bell stopped by Castle Country Radio to share some information about what is taking place at the school.

Most of the students at the Castle Valley Center enjoyed their long holiday break and are getting back into the swing of things. “You know what, our students are always thrilled to come back. I think that’s maybe a little different than other schools but our students are eager to come back, can’t wait to come back and work, and we’re also excited to have them,” stated Principal Bell. Students in the district were out of school for the holiday break for about two weeks.

Last year, the school along with students from the high school held a dinner for the Castle Valley Students to see how it was to have a restaurant experience. “We’re with the high school students that are working on some pre-employment skills also. So kind of teaching them how to interview, what goes into a job, what you do for different jobs. Then they are going to come over and create a restaurant experience for us. Then our students will have the experience of going, waiting, placing an order, waiting for that order, and then those high school students will be serving our students and creating the meal,” explained Principal Bell. The high school students will make some simple meals that they are able to bake and serve to the Castle Valley students.

Not only is the Carbon High School involved with Castle Valley Center but there are many local agencies that help bring unique experiences to the students at Castle Valley Center. “Active Re-Entry works with our high school class up there weekly. They provide help with support staff, they help with transportation, they help with curriculum, they’ve provided that. We’ve had the Price City Library, Tawnya down there comes up. She’s created a library experience for us once a month down there for the students that can go down there. A library experience at our school for those that can not leave our building,” said Principal Bell. Representatives from local law enforcement, students from USU Eastern University and community members also assist with activities to interact with the students at Castle Valley Center.

The school is in the process of putting together a school library. There is a great and easy way for the community help the school gather books for their facility. “We’ve identified some books and we have a custom registry on Amazon. If they go to Amazon to the registries and search for Castle Valley Center. We put a bunch of books in there that people can purchase for our library. We’ve done that specifically so that we kind of have books that fit our students cause they’re kind of specific books that they would access. But they can go there and purchase a book and its delivered right to our school and we’ve had lots of people already purchase some and we’re very grateful for that,” stated Principal Bell. The school has also had many residents stop by the school to make monetary donations towards their library.
