The Utah High School Activities Association (UHSAA) posts the Rating Percentage Index (RPI) daily on their website for most high school activities. These numbers are then used in the state championship tournaments to seed the teams for the playoffs.
The RPI is a mathematical equation that ranks teams by the strength of their schedule and is based on three different parameters: the teams winning percentage , their opponents winning percentage and their opponents opponents winning percentage. The equation gives each team a percentage and then those numbers are used to rank each team throughout the season. With the playoffs coming up in February teams can get an idea as to whom they may be playing when the time comes.
In 1A the top five changed places but the schools remained the same. Piute at 12-1 took the top place from Tabiona who slipped to No. 2. Panguitch stayed at three and Monument Vallety switched spots with Wayne rounding out the top five.
The Green River Pirates dropped from No. 19 to 20 after their game with the Pinnacle Panthers had to be rescheduled to February 17, this week they are scheduled to face Monument Valley at home on Friday. Game time is set for 5:30
The Pinnacle Panthers dropped four spots from 17 to 21. The Lady Panthers met up with Monticello last Tuesday falling by the score of 47-20. They will welcome Whitehorse Friday night, game time will be 5:30.
The top five in 3A pretty much the same as 1A, with the same five teams just changing places. Richfield took over the top spot replacing Judge Memorial that dropped to No. 2. Grantsville held steady at No. 3 as did Emery and Layton Christian Academy.
Emery, who stayed put in the No. 4 spot, finished last week with a pair of wins over Corner Canyon and Canyon View. They have one game set for this week against Carbon. You can catch all the action on KRPX 95.3 The Peak. The Landon’s Diesel Service Pre-game show will begin at 6:00 with the game to follow at 7.
Carbon slipped from No.8 to 9 and faced one opponent last week, Richfield. The Wildcats claimed the 53-36 win in the contest. This week they will face the Emery Spartans on Thursday night.
