Wednesday night the Green River Pirates fell in their home game with the Wayne Badgers 50-25. The Pirates are struggling through this season with their only win coming on December 8. This marked the second meeting between the two teams with Wayne winning the contest 62-36 on November 19.

The Badgers are having a season on par with the Pirates, carrying a 4-8 record and sitting in the No. 18 spot in the 1A RPI. Wayne plays in a very difficult Region 20, home to six teams in the top 10 in the RPI rankings.

Green River has had issues this season putting together wins. Currently they have a 1-13 record and sit in the No. 23 position in the RPI, with just six games left they can look at them as an opportunity to get ready for the state playoffs that will begin in early March.

The Pirates are being led this season by sophomore guard/forward Luis Hernandez who is averaging just under ten points per game (ppg). Jordan Anderson, a 5’11” senior guard is second on the team with 6.8 ppg and 5’10” sophomore Raul Mendoza averages just under six ppg.

Green River will be home on Saturday to take on Whitehorse. They have two games on the road and then will wrap up the season with a three game home stand starting on Feb. 5 against Monument Valley.

The game with Whitehorse is scheduled to be a double header with the girls team playing playing at 1:30 and the boys taking the court at 3.
