Thursday night at the Spartan Center something had to give as the Carbon and Emery girls teams met on the court for the first time this season. Both the Dinos and Spartans have the same region record at 1-1, both have beaten the same team (Canyon View) and both have lost to the same team (Richfield), but on Thursday it would be the Lady Spartans that would move their region record to 2-1 and 13-4 overall with a 50-29 win over Carbon.
The Spartans, who are in the top 5 of the state RPI at No. 4, have just four games remaining on their schedule, with Grand leaving Region 12 to go independent that means that every team in the region has now lost two games off of their schedules, it also means that for the most part going forward teams will only have one game a week till the end of the season.
The Dinos on the other hand, sit at 10-6 and the No. 9 in The RPI and like the Spartans have just four games on the schedule as well.
Thursday night Carbon came out with an early lead that they were unable to hold on to as Emery found their stroke and methodically executed their game plan allowing the Spartans to take a 24-11 lead into the locker room at half time.
The second half was identical to quarter two as Emery would score thirteen points in all three quarters. Carbon just could not slow the Spartan attack down and suffered their sixth loss of the season and fell to 1-2 in Region 12 play.
Amiah Timothy led the way for the Dinos with seven. Madi Orth added six and pulled down four boards and Sydney Orth scored five, with two rebounds, two assists and two steals.
For the Spartans it was Baylee Jacobsen who lead all scorers with 19 while grabbing six rebounds. Brynn Gordon scored seven with two rebounds and four steals and Tambrie Tuttle also had seven while pulling down five rebounds.
Up next for the Dinos is a game with the No.1 ranked Richfield Wildcats on the road next Thursday Jan. 27.
The Spartans will be on the road as well but will travel to Cedar City to face No. 11 Canyon View.
Carbon and Emery will meet for the season finale on Feb. 10 in Price
