The Utah High School Activities Association (UHSAA) posts the Rating Percentage Index (RPI) daily on their website for most high school activities. These numbers are then used in the state championship tournaments to seed the teams for the playoffs.
The RPI is a mathematical equation that ranks teams by the strength of their schedule and is based on three different parameters: the teams winning percentage , their opponents winning percentage and their opponents opponents winning percentage. The equation gives each team a percentage and then those numbers are used to rank each team throughout the season. With the playoffs coming up in February teams can get an idea as to whom they may be playing when the time comes.
In 1A the top three stayed put, with Piute holding on at No.1 at 14-1. Tabiona and Panguitch remained at No. 2 and No. 3, both spots four and five reversed back to the way they were two weeks ago with Wayne and Monument Valley switching places.
The Green River Pirates held on to the No. 20 after falling this week to both Monument Valley and Whitehorse. They will take to the floor again on Tuesday at home against Wayne.
The Pinnacle Panthers also held on to their spot from last week No. 21. The Lady Panthers faced Whitehorse last Friday falling 54-39. They will face Grand County Tuesday and Monument Valley on Friday, both games are on the road.
