Carbon High School was highlighted on this week’s Carbon School District weekly update so Principal Jared Hardy stopped by Castle Country Radio to discuss what’s been taking place at the school.

The construction taking place at the school is moving along and finishing touches are being applied. “We’re able to get into most of our new arts wing, our choir class, band classes, and our drama classes are all in their new classrooms. We’re just finishing up the new visual arts room, it will be opening really soon, and Grand Canyon is right around the corner, we’re getting there. Our new dance room is about finished as well. So once we get everything all finished up, we’re going to invite the public in and do an open house so everybody can come and see,” explained Principal Hardy. The school is very excited and pleased with the construction process thus far and are definitely looking forward to having the public visit the new digs.

The school’s Prom has been scheduled and will be held on March 17, it’s a Thursday evening. “Where we had Prom, we were going to have close to 300 students that wouldn’t have been able to attend and so we moved it to the 17th which is a Thursday night but we have Professional Development Day for teachers on the 18th, so students don’t have school the next day. On that day we actually had no activities, it’s one of the few days. So we want to get as many students to Prom as we can, that want to come, and so we didn’t want to force that many students to make a choice between Prom and participating in the activities they want to do,” stated Principal Hardy. More details about Prom will be shared at a later date.

There is a Parent/Teacher Conference opportunity coming up for parents to come visit their student’s teachers. “We have our third quarter Parent/Teacher Conference coming up on February 28 and March 1, that’s Monday, Tuesday, we’ll go from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm each of those nights. As the parents look forward, they hopefully plan on coming in to talk with their teachers and find out where their students are at,” said Principal Hardy. Any parents who are unable to attend the Parent/Teacher Conference can contact a school counselor to see how their student is doing in school.
