The Carbon Dinos traveled to Richfield on Thursday to compete in the Region 12 swimming championships. The Lady Dinos are chasing their fourth straight state title and the boys are ready to make some noise this year as well. After it was all said and done, the Lady Dinos came away with a Region 12 title and the boys team finished second behind a tough Canyon View team.
The girls side of the pool saw Carbon take first followed by Emery. Canyon View, Richfield and Grand rounded out the top five.
Alyssa Chamberlain was a part of Carbon three first place finishes taking the top spot in the 50 yard free with a time of 26.68. Chamberlain was followed close behind by team mates Thalyn Lyman and Tyrca Jaramillo. The Dinos came away with a first place finish in the 200 free relay with the team of Chamberlain, Lyman, Jaramillo and Mia Crompton, and claimed another top finish in the 400 free relay with Hadley Bower, Chamberlain, Lyman and Jaramillo.
Canyon View took the top spot on the boys side with Carbon, Richfield, Grand and Emery rounding out the top five.
Camden Chamberlain and Gabe Ibanez led the the Carbon boys with two second place finishes each.
Chamberlain took second in the 200 free with a time of 2:01.39, right behind Jacob Grimshaw of Canyon View, who turned in a time of 1:51.64. Chamberlain also earned a second place in the 500 free at 5:36.11. Max Cannon of Canyon View took first with 4:53.22.
Ibanez took second in the 200 individual medley behind Cannon’s time of 1:58.93. Ibanez also finished the 100 fly in second place with a time of 56.10 just off the pace set by Beaver’s Robert Gonzalez’s time of 55.40.
The swim season will come to an end when Brigham Young University will host the state championships February 11-12.
