The Lady Pirates of Green River, behind a strong fourth quarter, collected a win against the Monticello Buckaroos on Wednesday night at home 42-30. To say that Green River has had an up-and-down season would be an understatement. The girls come ready to play every game on their schedule and are the epitome of a team.

The Green River squad has just five members, with some that had never played before agreeing to so their friends could, these girls have been through it this season and they’ve faced it all as a team.

Wednesday night seemed like any other region game as the Lady Pirates welcomed the Buckaroos to town. This was the first meeting of the two schools this season and Green River came out in the first quarter scoring 10 while holding Monticello to just three.  By the end of the first half the Pirates held a 14-9 lead.

It was the fourth quarter when Green River put some distance between them and Monticello scoring 18 points in the quarter and putting an end to a six game losing streak dating back to December 3.

Abigail Erwin had another big night for the Pirates scoring 24. Laura Martinez added eight and Jenilee Andrus six in the win.

There will be plenty time to rest as Green River wont be back on the court till next Saturday when the Monument Valley Cougars come calling. Back on January 21 the two teams met up with the Cougars earning the 49-35 win. Monument Valley is currently the No. 4 team in 1A and will bring an 8-2 record with them.

Game time is set for  1:30 pm with the boy’s game set to follow at 3.
