On December 18, the Lady Dinos started a four game winning streak that was broken on January 13 when they met the Richfield Wildcats the first time and it ended in a 53-36 loss on Carbon’s home floor. After that, they were handed another loss by the Emery Spartans in Castle Dale and then again on Thursday night they were back in Richfield and dropped their third contest in a row 43-29.
Region 12 is home to four teams in the RPI top 15. Richfield (No.1), Emery (No. 4), Carbon (No. 8) and Canyon View (No.11), with only four teams in the conference all will have something to say when state tourney time rolls around in February.
Carbon would score first in this one, unfortunately they scored just two points at the 6:23 mark of the first and didn’t do it again for over three and a half minutes. Six-foot-four Nicole Willardson patrolled down low for the Wildcats making it difficult to score in the paint, and on the offensive side of the ball she was able to put up 13. In the second quarter, Richfield pushed the halftime lead to 24-17.
Coming out in the second half the Lady Dinos had trouble finding offense, scoring just six in the third and fourth quarters. Richfield outscored the Dinos in each quarter closing them out for the 43-29 win.
Haley Garrish scored 10 for the Dinos she also grabbed eight rebounds. Sydney Orth had nine points and Janzie Jensen five in the loss.
Carbon holds a 10-7 record overall, 1-3 in region play and have just three games left on the regular season schedule, a non-region match-up with Real Salt Lake Academy then two region rematches with Canyon View and Emery.
The Dinos won’t play again until Thursday when they welcome Real Salt Lake Academy out of Herriman for their final non-region contest. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m..
