The Lady Spartans claimed a second place finish on Thursday in Richfield at the Region 12 Championships. The boys finished in fifth place overall out of eight schools that took part in the meet on the boys side. All in all Carbon, Canyon View, Richfield, Grand, Gunnison Valley, South Sevier, North Sevier and Beaver participated.

The girls finished the day in second place behind Carbon. Canyon View, Richfield and Grand made up the rest of the top five.

Cambrie Jensen grabbed the Spartans only first place finish with her time of 1:09.07 in the 100 backstroke. Jensen and fellow team mates Sydney Carter, Aubrey Guymon and Abby Johansen claimed second place finishes in both the 200 free relay and the 400 free relay.

Guymon also finished in second place in the 100 fly with a time of 1:05.30 just off the pace set by Canyon View’s Addison Taylor of 1:04.55. Guymon earned another second place finish in the 200 IM at 2:32.76, behind Kiley Reynolds of Canyon View and her time of 2:29.05.

Carter grabbed a second place finish in the 200 free with a time of 2:15.05, behind Avah King of Richfield and her time of 2:14.82

Canyon View claimed the region title on the boy’s side followed by Carbon, Richfield and Grand, with Emery rounding out the top five.

The boys team of Kegley Terry, Kyler Minchey, Jacob Fauver and Alex Fredrick claimed a fourth place finish in the 200 medley relay turning in a time of 1:59.88, Canyon View swam to first place with a time of 1:41.17.

Up next will be the state championship tournament at Brigham Young University on February 11-12.  State invites are extended to the top 32 swimmers in each event throughout the season and the top 20 relay teams.
