
Kinlee Toomer led all scorers with 21 and Ella Bradley had 14 on Saturday in the BDAC as the USU Eastern Lady Eagles defeated the Salt Lake Community College Bruins 67-53. Coming off a big win against CSI earlier in the week, the Lady Eagles were ready for the Bruins and showed it as they moved to 12-11 overall and an 8-5 conference record with tournament time just a couple weeks away.
Salt Lake carries a 15-7 record and currently sit with a 7-5 conference record. The Bruins ended a three game losing streak on January 31, when they faced Community Christian.
Saturday’s game started with Maclani Michael putting the Lady Eagles on the board first with a layup. The Bruins would go on an 8-2 run till almost the half way point in the quarter, when a jumper by Alexandra Olson would cut the lead in half 8-4. The two teams would trade baskets with USU Eastern never being able to get close as the quarter would close out with Salt Lake leading 18-13.
The Bruins pushed the lead to 10 points, 25-15, when Bradley scored five of the Eagles 14 points in the last four minutes of the second quarter, but even after the run USU Eastern still found themselves down by five going into the half.
The third quarter belonged to Toomer, scoring the first eight points for the Lady Eagles and putting her team in front 37-36 at the 5:08 mark. Once again the Bruins kept coming back and by the end of the third a three pointer by Michael put USU Eastern up by two going into the final 10 minutes of play.
In the fourth, the Lady Eagles took control, out scoring Salt Lake 22-10 and never trailing in the final quarter. USU Eastern kept putting distance between them and their opponent until the final buzzer taking the 14 point victory.
Along with her 21, Toomer also grabbed four rebounds and dished out six assists. Bradley pulled down seven boards and handed out three assists and Maclani Michael added 11 in the second conference win of the week for the Lady Eagles.
A quick turn around now as they will face the same Salt Lake Community College team on Monday in the BDAC. Game time is set for 5:oo.
