Emery wrestling traveled to Richfield over the weekend for the divisional rounds on Friday and Saturday. Emery took 26 wrestlers to the Sevier Valley Center and had 17 of them eligible to move on to state which will take place back in Richfield on Feb. 16 and 17.
The Spartans took one step closer to the state tournament at the Divisionals. Emery has had a great season taking their fair share of victories throughout this season and they now know who will be competing at the state tournament.
Starting right at the top with the 106 pound class Monty Christiansen was one of four first place finishes. Monty went 4-0 for the weekend with his first three matches all victory by pin. The first place match was a very close 9-8 decision taking the win over Ryler Jorgensen of Morgan.
Merritt Meccariello also took a first place in the 120 class, as with Christiansen his first three matches were all victory by pin with the final match coming down to a 4-3 decision in favor or Meccariello.
Up at the 190 class, Hayes Dalton received a bye in the first round and won by pin in his next two. The first place match became a major decision win over Ryker Adams of Morgan by a score of 9-1.
Maddex Christman was the final member of the Spartans who would claim a first place finish. With three pins in the first three matches, the final match came down to a 4-3 decision over Rylee Creasey of Morgan .
The Spartans also collected four 2nd places and one third.
Up next for the Spartans is the State Championships February 16 and 17 at the Sevier Valley Center in Richfield.
