It’s time to catch up with Elmo City Mayor James Winn, who took time from his busy schedule to speak over the telephone with Castle Country Radio about the city’s new year and what they are doing to prepare for another great year in Elmo.

They had a vacant seat available after the first of the year but it now has been filled by a local citizen. “We’ve advertised for people to come put in interest and we had one person put in her name is Tara Augare and she came last night, and the council voted to appoint her to the empty spot. So now we have a full council,” said Mayor Winn. The council meets once a month on the first Wednesday of the month. Residents are always welcomed to attend the meetings.

Construction for the new pickleball courts will be starting as soon as the weather is warm enough. “We waited a long time with the COVID delays and stuff, we didn’t get the net and the supplies for it to be set up until just the last month. Now we have all the stuff, we’re getting bids on the paint and we’re going to paint the court up and put it in as soon as it gets warm enough to paint,” stated Mayor Winn. City Officials will have to make some improvements/repairs to the existing concrete but once that is taken care of the paint can be applied. This is going to be a great facility for residents of all ages to enjoy.

The city constructed an ice-skating rink near Town Hall for individuals/families in the area to use. “The Emery County Rec came over and helped us put it all together. We’re experiencing learning curves and that kind of thing, trying to make sure we have a Zamboni to make it all smooth. Now it got warm for a few days, it made the water go funny so now there’s lumps and we’re working on getting that straighten out. It evaporated some of the water so we had to refill it a little bit, that kind of thing. But it’s open anytime, we’ve had lots of youth groups and other people coming over and using it, so we’re glad to offer it to people,” stated Mayor Winn.  This is another great facility that the city has implemented for residents to enjoy during the winter months.
