This week’s Carbon School District update shines a spotlight on Castle Heights Elementary and Principal Wendy Fluckey took time to speak over the telephone with Castle Country Radio to discuss the school counselor week, parent/teacher conferences and archery team.
The school is currently recognizing their school counselor as this week is National School Counseling week. “We’re fortunate to have Amanda Ori here full-time and she’s just wonderful with the kids. She goes in weekly to each classroom and teaches them a lesson that focuses on character, empathy, kindness and so forth. Then she also provides small group counseling for students, as well as one-on-one and she’s just wonderful with the kids, she’s wonderful to work with, and we’re very fortunate to have her here,” explained Principal Fluckey. The recognition is well deserved and helps to bring public attention to the contribution school counselors bring to the schools.
Castle Heights preparing for parent/teacher conferences and the school’s PTA is hosting a book fair during this time too. “Next week we actually have, believe it or not, our midterm third quarter is next week and then we have parent/teacher conferences on Wednesday and Thursday, as well as our book fair. That’s just a chance for the teachers to meet with the parents, go over the mid-year testing for their child and just talk about where they are at and where they’re headed towards the end of the year. It’s an opportunity also for parents to ask questions,” stated Principal Fluckey. Further details on parent/teacher conferences will be sent home with students at a later date.
The Archery Team has been busy practicing and preparing for their regional competition. “Our kids have done a wonderful job in their competitions. Our coach, Kyle Hansen and Mr. Bill Bate have just done a phenomenal job with these kids. It’s just fun to see the kids be able to grow and excel at their own pace individually. That is coming up in March, I believe it’s March 11 and 12 at Mont Harmon,” said Principal Fluckey. The school’s archery team is a solid, strong team and officials seem to think that they will do well at regionals.
