
Last Wednesday night, the Lady Eagles had all the answers in front of the home crowd when they took down then No.5 CSI, snapping their 19 game winning streak and handing them their first conference loss of the season. Fast forward seven days and change the venue to Twin Falls, Idaho and the outcome was totally different as USU Eastern suffered a 64-47 loss Wednesday.
Trailing at the end of the first quarter by nine, the Lady Eagles could never find their offensive groove against CSI, committing 25 turnovers that the opposing team turned into 26 points pushing USU Eastern to a 8-7 record in conference play with the tournament coming up in just two weeks.
USU Eastern put just two points on the board in the first quarter from an Ella Bradley jumper at the 7:21 mark, and then the team just went cold, Bradley ended the game with 13 on 5-11 shooting.
Maclani Michael scored six of her team leading 14 in the second quarter in which the Eagles would cut the CSI lead to two points on a Mardee Fillmore layup that made the score 20-18, that was as close as USU Eastern would get as CSI continued to build on their lead, pushing it as high as 27 in the fourth.
The real differences were made in the paint where CSI doubled up USU Eastern 32-16 and also in points off turnovers, the Lady Eagles created 20 turnovers but could only score 10 points a stat that they were more than doubled up by CSI, who used great defense, holding the Eagles to 32.6 % shooting from the field.
Emilia Nworie led CSI with 30 in the game while pulling down 11 rebounds as well. Ashlee Strawbridge added 10 in a game that saw CSI shoot 41% from the field.
Wednesday’s loss marks the second in a row for the Lady Eagles after falling to Salt Lake Community College on Monday putting their overall record at 12-13 and 8-7 in conference play.
The season continues on Saturday for the final home game of the as they take on the College of Southern Nevada.
