It was really a tale of two halves on Wednesday in Twin Falls when USU Eastern visited CSI . Coming off a loss to the No. 1 ranked Salt Lake Community College on Saturday, the Eagles were looking to rebound in the third meeting of the season with CSI. USU Eastern kept close in the first half but late in the second would fall behind and CSI took the 74-68 win.

This game was played close from the beginning even breaking it down statistically, but CSI would pull away in the end moving the Eagles to 8-7 in conference play and 16-10 overall.

USU Eastern led at the end of the first half after battling it out with CSI, with the lead changing three times and going up towards the end of the first off of a pair of free throws from Malek Malual, putting the Eagles up by one, a lead increase to as high as eleven in the second half when Kurt Wegscheider, who lead all scorers with 23 hit a free throw to make the score 51-40.

CSI went on a 12-0 run over the next five minutes taking a 52-51 lead. It was at this point that both teams tightened up their defenses, but unfortunately the Eagles couldn’t contain the Golden Eagles of CSI as they took an eleven point lead of their own 74-63 with just :42 seconds left. It’s seemed like every time they need a big shot, BJ Davis who scored 14, was there with a three pointer and he would hit one to cut the CSI lead to eight, but a layup by Isaac Castagnetto cutting the lead to six was as close as USU Eastern would get.

The Eagles shot 25-57 for 43.9% from the field, and held CSI  to 36.2% for the game, but CSI made up for that by shooting 34.6% from behind the arc compared to USU Eastern’s 27.8%.

Marcellious Lockett scored 17 for CSI on 5-11 shooting from the three point line. Robert Whaley added 15 on 6-8 shooting and went 3-6 from the charity stripe.

Up next for USU Eastern is a home game this Saturday against the College of Southern Nevada, the Eagles wrap up the regular season on Tuesday in Rangely with Colorado Northwestern.
