The USU Eastern Gallery East is excited to be hosting an exhibit called Courtroom Art Retrospective: 40 Years of Scott Snow’s Sketches. Associate Professor of Art, Noel Carmack took time to come into Castle Country Radio to discuss all the details.
“It’s a Courtroom Art Retrospective: 40 Years of Scott Snow’s Sketches. It features the work of Salt Lake City artist and illustrator Scott Snow. Now Scott has been around a long time, he’s been a designer and illustrator, freelancing, doing a lot of work for books and even for the LDS Church. But for all those years, going back to the 1980s he’s been doing courtroom art for KSL TV, and for KUTV. Some of his art work has appeared on national networks CNN, NBC, CBS, Fox News for some of the major cases,” stated Carmack. Besides courtroom art, Snow has established himself as a graphic designer and illustrator.
There are many cases that Snow drew over the years. “There are a number of cases and some that I’m not quite so familiar with but you’ll see things like the Singer/Swapp Standoff which took place here in Utah, I believe that was back in the 80s. You’ll see a drawing or two on the Elizabeth Smart kidnapping, which wasn’t too long ago, but he had to appear in court and rendered that courtroom scene. He’s got some drawings on, even one interpretation of the Wilberg Mine Disaster which took place here in our area down in Emery County,” stated Carmack. He works in pastels which can be very messy and the exhibit will feature 29 selected courtroom drawings.
The show is currently taking place at Gallery East on the campus on USU Eastern. “Gallery East is open Monday through Friday, from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. We’re closed on holidays and weekends, so we’re generally not open on Saturdays and Sundays. If you are unable to come in during the week, say you have a group that is coming in and would like to tour the campus and would like to stop in at the gallery, if they will call me in advance, I can easily come in and open up the gallery for that groups,” stated Carmack. Gallery East is located in the Central Instruction Building and will end on Friday, February 25.
