The Carbon and Emery County Senior Centers have been busy with various activities and events taking place at all the centers so Castle Country Radio was able to sit down with Director, Robbie Jensen to discuss what the seniors have been up to.

“Currently we are fully open in both Carbon and Emery Counties, so all seven locations between the two counties are open and no restrictions. The only restriction that I’ve placed on people is please don’t come in when you’re sick,” stated Jensen. Each of the centers are running their individual programs/activities as scheduled.

Because the centers are up and running there has been slight changes made to the Meals on Wheels Program.  “Now that we are fully reopened, we have to go back to the guidelines that we have set up through the state and federal government. Which means you have to qualify for meals again. So if you’re 60 or older and you’re more or less homebound, you can qualify for Mobile Meals,” said Jensen. Any individuals interested in the Mobile Meal program will have to undergo an assessment when they apply. For further information about eligibility contact the center.

If you would rather enjoy a nutritious meal at the center, you can do so Monday through Thursday at noon. “We’re open for lunch at noon every Monday through Thursday in Price, then Monday or Tuesday depending upon where you are in Emery County but come out and enjoy a meal. The whole point of the meals is for social interaction, we all know what its like to be home during COVID, no one to talk to and we suffer for it. So we want to make sure our Seniors are getting out there and getting socialization that they need and we provide,” explained Jensen. If you’re interested in having lunch you are asked to call by 9:00 am so that they know how much food to prepare.

There is income tax assistance available at the center for any Seniors that wish to have some help filing their taxes this year. “Every Wednesday from 12:30 pm to 2:30 pm we have the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program or VITA Program that comes and we have volunteers that come out and help the Seniors or anyone in the community to file their incomes tax for free,” said Jensen. If you would like help with filing your income tax you can contact the Senior Center to schedule an appointment.

All of the monthly events can be found in the Carbon County Senior Center’s free newsletter that is readily available at the center or by calling (435) 636-3202.
