The 3A State Championships for wrestling took place on Wednesday and Thursday at the Sevier Valley Center. Emery took 16 wrestlers to the competition and returned home with two state champions, Byron Christiansen at the 132 pound class and Hayes Dalton at 190, this is Dalton’s third state title. Emery wrestlers also earned a second place, three third places and a fourth place finish.
Juab would take the top spot in team scoring with 307.5, Morgan claimed second with 213.5. South Summit, Emery and Canyon View round out the top five.
Christiansen’s first three matches were all won by fall, in his final match he took the decision over Blake Woolsey of Morgan, 3-2. This was Christiansen’s first state title and it comes as he completes his senior campaign.
Dalton, another senior, took his first three matches by pin. In the championship match he claimed the 8-2 decision over Logan Holdaway of Juab. This marks his third state title in wrestling for the Spartans.
Maddex Christman at 215 pounds claimed a second place finish with a 3-1 record,falling to Rylee Creasey of Morgan who took the sudden victory.
Monty Christiansen was one of the trio of Emery wrestlers who ended in third place with a 4-1 record. Tyrell Guymon and Tyler Stilson also took third place in their weight classes. Merritt Meccariello earned a fourth place finish in the 120 pound weight class with a record of 3-2.
