The USU Extension Office is hosting a seminar on Estate Planning for Farmers and Ranchers on March 7 and March 8 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Carbon County Event Center. Extension Assistant Professor, Rowe Zwahlen stopped by Castle Country Radio to discuss all the details.

“It’s a little bit different for farming and ranching operations, you know it’s not quite exactly the same as just passing on grandma’s China there’s some things to think about and some special considerations that we we’ll be able to talk about through this process,” said Zwahlen. There is no cost to attend the seminar. Space is limited so register today by calling the USU Extension Office in Emery at (435) 381-3538 or Carbon at (435) 636-3235.

Speaking with loved ones when starting Estate Planning is very important so that they know your wishes. “Ideally you want to come with important people to you. So husband and wives together as a couple, if you got a business partner, if you’re running the farm with your siblings, if you got some older kids that are involved in the operation. People that are important for the conversation it’s good to have you there together to talk about this,” said Zwahlen. This is a great opportunity to start the process of Estate Planning as there will be many tools shared at the seminar by a group of experts.

“What we’re going to be covering is kind of a strategy for having important conversations, I guess is what it really is. It’s walking through what your desires are, what your family desires are, and how you can make things fair for your kids, for your heirs,” stated Zwahlen. A good understanding of what you wish to happen to your estate is the first step in estate planning so opening those lines of communication at this event is the perfect opportunity to start that.
