On Monday the UHSAA released the final RPI poll for 1A basketball as well as the bracket for the playoffs which begin this Saturday. The Panther boys landed in the No. 19 spot with a 7-11 record and the girls occupy No. 20 at 4-18.
The Pinnacle boys enter into the post-season losing their last two contests against Green River and Whitehorse. In the opening round they will play the Wayne Badgers, No. 14 with an 8-13 record, on their home floor in Bicknell. Going back to December 2020, Pinnacle defeated Wayne 57-53 at a weekend tournament. If they beat Wayne they will then move on to play No. 3 Manila at the Sevier Valley Center on March 2.
The Lady Panthers struggled this season losing their final game of the regular season to Green River last Thursday 36-25. Their first round opponent will be Valley, Saturday in Orderville. These two teams haven’t faced off lately but looking at teams that they have both faced, like Piute and Escalante who are in the same region with Valley, neither team has a win against them. A team like Wendover, who played both Pinnacle and Valley, the Panthers fell 60-11, while Valley went on to beat Wendover 49-26. If they get past Valley, Pinnacle will take on No. 4 Panguitch at Richfield High School March, 2.
