The Green River Pirates are ready to move forward into the post-season and now they know who their first round match-ups will be against. Monday, the UHSAA released the final RPI standings and brackets for the upcoming 1A State Championship Tournament which will begin at home sites this Saturday. The Lady Pirates will be on the road to face Bryce Valley and the boys will travel to Monument Valley.

The Lady Pirates have been quite the story all year, with just five players, some games have been forfeited and some rescheduled because of injuries or illness, but at the end of the season they earned four wins, three of them in region play and found themselves in the No.18 spot. In the opening round they will face No. 15 Bryce Valley in Tropic.  These two teams started off the season together on November 19 when the Bryce Valley Mustangs got the better of Green River, 38-21. The game will be played Saturday and is scheduled at this time for a 1 p.m. tip-off . The winner of that contest will go on to face No. 2 Tabiona at Richfield High School on March 2.

The boys team finished the regular season at 3-18 and in the No. 22 spot. Green River split their last two games of the season, a win over Pinnacle and then took a loss at the hands of  Monticello. Their opening round opponent will be a familiar foe, the Monument Valley Cougars. The two teams split their two region games this season with Green River winning the last meeting Feb. 5, 71-46. If the Pirates win that contest, they move on to play No. 6 Tabiona on March 2 at the Sevier Valley Center in Richfield.
