4-h

The Carbon County 4-H Program is gearing up for another successful year of clubs and events and Coordinator, DeLayna Barr took time to come into Castle Country Radio to discuss all the details.

Officials are excited to be offering in our area a Junior Entrepreneur program similar to the program that was developed in Emery County. “These kids are going to be able to obtain a business license, they’re going to make a business plan, budget and funding; manufacturing, advertisement, customer service, and they can start building up a company,” stated Barr. The club will begin on March 8 and would be a great program for children to learn leadership, strategy, financing and startup skills from local businesses in the area.

There are many partners from the community that will be involved in presenting to the Junior Entrepreneurs. “We’ve got some great volunteers coming to help us, Jordan Steel from Office Etc., Carmen Jones from Washington Federal Bank, Amanda Paiz from Marketing Elevated, Brittany Forest from Hippie Skin and Seth Marsing from the County Treasurer,” said Barr. Each of the presenters will share their knowledge of developing and managing a business with the children in the club.

Once children complete the Junior Entrepreneur program, they will be given the opportunity to sell their goods/services. “After this is all done and during the summer, we will have an event where the kids will be able to set up shop, and have people come and buy their product or look into their service that they will provide,” said Barr. The children will apply all they’ve learned during the program towards the sale of their goods/services.

Another great club that is starting up is the Hiking Club. “We’re going to be all over Emery County and Carbon County hiking. Jo Varner is our leader on this and she takes her family to so many fun places and I’m glad that she’s bringing 4-H along with her. This club is for ages 8 to 18 and it’s $12.00 but we’re giving you hats, and backpacks, thing like little bags to take on your hikes with you. Parents will just need to help give rides to locations,” stated Barr. The Hiking Club has even invited Steve Price with the USU Extension Office to go on a hike to talk about the different  plants that thrive in our area.
