The Emery Lady Spartans will begin quarterfinal action Thursday in Ogden at Weber State University. Emery ended their regular season with a 16-5 record and in the No. 4 spot in the RPI. Receiving a first round bye, they hit the floor for their first playoff action last Friday when the Delta Rabbits visited the Spartan Center and Emery earned the 68-40 win. Thursday’s opponent will be very familiar to the Spartans, the Morgan Trojans.

Going back to last season, Thursday will be the fourth time these teams have faced each other. The last two seasons Morgan and Emery have been the first game on the others schedule, and Emery has won both openers. In the state title game last year however, Morgan claimed a hard fought 51-47 win, and this year the teams will meet in the quarters.

Senior Baylee Jacobson has led the Spartans this season scoring (13.8), she also leads the team in steals (2.0) and assists (2.3). Senior Tambrie Tuttle leads the team with 5.5 rebounds/game and junior Tatum Tanner is averaging a block/game.

The Morgan Trojans really have a two headed monster to watch for in senior Janel Blazzard and sophomore Alyvia Jaffa. Blazzard leads the Trojans in points (14.3), assists (4.7) and steals (3.3).  In the game at Emery this season she scored 16 in the 59-50 loss to the Spartans.

Jaffa is a 6’3″ center who leads the team in rebounds at just under nine per game, she also averages two blocks  per contest as well. She scored 17 against Emery.

The game on Thursday is set to tip-off at 9:10 p.m. You can listen on KOAL 107.3 FM or 750 AM at 8:40 for the Landon’s Diesel Service Pregame show or stream the action live at castlecountryradio.com
