Though the snow doesn’t make it feel like it, baseball season is just around the corner and Eastern Utah Cal Ripken and Babe Ruth Baseball are getting ready. With sign-ups going on now, league president Darek Martinez talks with KOAL’s Drive Time Sports about getting players signed up, but more importantly needing volunteers for coaches, assistants, team parents and umpires.
“None of this will happen if we don’t get parents involved with it, it’s all pretty much volunteer based. All the board members are volunteers, all the coaches we’re reaching out to, when you’re signing up your kid, if you could let the league know that you’re willing to help or willing to coach or willing to help clean up fields, whatever you’re willing to do, we’re needing volunteers to help run this league.”
This league is open to players from 5-15 years old and breaks down to five divisions. Little rookies will be ages five and six. Big rookies, seven and eight. Minors are nine and ten, majors are ages 11 and 12 and Babe Ruth 13 to 15 years of age.
The registration window closes on Friday, all the information is available at their website HERE.
Another thing that they are in need of is sponsorship from local businesses. The funds that are raised will be used to purchase uniforms and equipment that will be needed for the league to operate, as well as daily expenses and league fees.
There are three different levels of sponsorships available. At the $500 level you would be an advertising team sponsor, your business name will be featured on the back of the team jersey, the players get to keep the jersey after the season ends. Your business name will also be placed on an over-sized baseball that will be placed on the outfield fence for the season. For $200, you will receive recognition with a baseball bearing your company’s name. And a small baseball option is available for $75.
