Emery started the season on November 18 with a win over then defending champion Morgan in the Spartan Center. Fast forward exactly 100 days and their season would come to an end the same way it began with a win, but this time it was for fifth place in 3A. Maybe carrying a chip on their shoulder from the game against Morgan on Friday, the Lady Spartans jumped out from the first whistle taking a 62-42 win over the Grantsville Cowboys.
Emery did something that only three teams in all of 3A were able to do, end their season with a win. Morgan ended their season with a win in the third place contest, and the winner of Judge Memorial and Richfield will be crowned state champion.
Senior Baylee Jacobson scored 21 for the Spartans and grabbed five rebounds. Tambrie Tuttle scored 14 with eight and Tatum Tanner, who the Cowboys could not find an answer for, scored 13 points, had nine rebounds and tallied six blocked shots.
Emery put up 31 points in the first half feeding Tanner down low, something that continued all game. Defensively they clamped down on Granstville allowing only 20 points.
The Cowboys came out trying to take charge in the third holding the Spartans to just eight points, but Emery saved their best for the fourth quarter, as they put 23 more on the board with seven different Spartans scoring.
Avery Allred scored 16 for the Cowboys in the loss, Baylee Lowder had seven and Emily Wear had five and led Grantsville with nine rebounds.
The Spartans end the season with a 19-6 overall and 4-2 in Region 12 play.
