The Carbon County Republican Party Caucus will be held on Tuesday, March 8 at Carbon High School Auditorium at 7:00 pm, with sign-in starting at 6:00 pm. Castle Country Radio was able to sit down with Chairman, Jae Potter to discuss all the details.
“The Caucus is really the very beginning of the political process in the state of Utah. This is the grassroots; this is where every one of us needs to be involved. Think of this as a neighborhood meeting, this is not someone campaigning for an elected position but this is the very beginning of where we come together. We are going to elect some precinct chairs, vice chairs, secretary, treasurer and then we’re also going to elect our delegates who then will participate in the County Convention and the State Convention for the Republican Party,” stated Potter. This is just gathering of local Republicans to get to know one another and get the specifics down for the Republican party.
“We’re going to bring everybody together at the high school on March 8 and we’ll have an opening meeting to give information to talk a little bit more about Caucus, follow some of the direction from the state, GOP. But at that point in time, we will then turn and have everyone go into their individual precincts. So we will have everyone check-in, registering and making sure they know what precinct they are in, where they’re going to be. Then those individual precincts or some of the smaller ones may be combined, will then go about this neighborhood meeting, this connecting with one another,” stated Potter. It’s during this time that the new leadership/delegates for the precincts will be decided upon.
