The Helper Mining & Railroad Museum is excited to be opening an exhibit entitled 110 Years of Girl Scouting and this showing is set to open on Saturday, March 12 at 11:00 am. Castle Country Radio sat down with Museum Representative, Roman Vega and Girl Scout Troop Leader, Megan Urbanik to discuss all the details.

“About four or five months ago there was a woman that came in, she was the CEO of Girl Scout Executive, there were some items that she was willing to donate to the museum. She had been the CEO Executive of Girl Scouting for over 56 years. We decided that with March 12 being 110-year anniversary of Girl Scouting that we were going to set up an exhibit with some Girl Scout memorabilia and work with one of the local troops,” said Vega. The name of the woman that donated the items for the exhibit is Kathleen Thomas. She has donated a guidebook from the 1930s, plus there will be authentic uniforms from Girls Scout and Brownie troops.

Currently, there is a Carbon County troop being developed since there was not a troop in Carbon County for a few years. “Well, there use to be one but all of the girls from that specific troop aged out and so with them aging out, its kind of just fizzled out locally,” explained Urbanik. Any girls who are interested in the Girl Scout Program will have a chance to speak with the members of the troop and its leaders during the event.

The event on March 12 is open to the entire community, especially to current and past Girl Scout members. “We’re inviting present and past Girl Scouts and Brownies to participate in the celebration of 110-year anniversary. We will have a cake, we will have refreshments, and we will have a local troop,” stated Vega. There will also be an opportunity during the event for guests to purchase Girl Scout cookies online. Troop Leaders can help guests access the portal to make their cookie purchases.
