Wellington Elementary is gearing up to finish its third-quarter work and excited for the upcoming spring break holiday. Castle Country Radio was able to sit down with Principal Paulie Vogrinec to talk about what the school is up to.
“It’s surprising to believe that the 17th is the end of third quarter, then the next day the teachers have a Professional Development Day to kind of finish up working on how they’re going to get their students to meet the goals that they set for the year, and how we’re going to meet our school goals. So we usually spend the full day looking at data and doing all of that so that on Monday when we come back we’re ready to go for fourth quarter,” stated Principal Vogrinec. Students will return to school for instruction until the spring break holiday which is scheduled to take place on April 4 through April 8.
Once students return from the spring break holiday, they will begin end of year testing. “I think our fifth graders will start their writing assessment and so we’ll be right in to getting our third, fourth and fifth graders doing the state testing. Then we also have state testing for kindergarten, first, second and third that we have to do and that’s all-individual one-on-one,” stated Principal Vogrinec. Administrators/faculty would like to remind parents the importance of having their students at school during the week of state testing.
The school is preparing their end of year calendar by making plans for different field trips around the area for students to visit. “Usually, our kindergarten does their field trips in the fall so that they can do stuff at the school. First grade the last little bit, they’ve gone over to Cleveland to the little Ghost Town and to the candy shop over there. Our third graders, they have Farm Field Day which the 4-H puts on so they will be doing that, and they always go out to Nine Mile,” said Principal Vogrinec. The fifth graders are hoping to hear back from the Bee’s Baseball League to see if they have been chosen to attend a game this year. Last year the fifth graders were unable to attend a game because of COVID. More details on the field trips will be sent home with students as they become available.
