Lady Dinos softball is starting out the season on the road in St. George, with a pair of games on Thursday and then beginning tournament play on Friday. In the two Thursday games, Carbon picked up wins against Pine View and Hurricane on Thursday and started out Friday picking up a win against Pleasant Grove. The Dinos have quite a test ahead in the coming days playing teams across different classifications.
The games on Thursday with Pine View (4A, Region 10) and Hurricane (4A Region 10), were really played like warm-up games for the weekend.
In the first game with Pine View, the Dinos claimed an 18-0 win in four innings, this is the second year in a row that Carbon has started the season against Pine View and the second win.
In game two they faced the Hurricane Tigers, taking a 13-3 win in the contest. Last year they beat the Tigers, 9-4 in their opening weekend of play.
On Friday the Dinos would begin the Warm Up Elite Tournament in St. George. The first team they face was the Pleasant Grove Vikings. The Vikings play in the 6A ranks and last year ended the season 13-10, defeating Roy in round one but falling to Clearfield in round two.
In their first game of the tournament, the Lady Dinos continued their roll taking a 13-8 win over the Vikings. They will continue the weekend playing two more games Friday and two games on Saturday. All four games are against some of the top teams in the state, starting with the defending 6A state champion, Riverton.
Riverton finished last season at 24-1 and a perfect 9-0 in region play. They will play each other at 6 p.m..
After that they will face the defending 3A champions Grantsville. Carbon didn’t see Grantsville in last year’s playoff, but did play them in the regular season winning in extra innings 4-3. They meet up at 8 p.m..
They wrap up the weekend tomorrow taking on Cyprus another 6A team at noon, then they will face Grand at 2 p.m..
