untitled-11

The Carbon Dinos track and field team made a statement as they dominated the field of 10 teams in the Red Rocks Invitational Saturday afternoon in Moab.

No team came within 200 points of the Lady Dinos as they claimed first place in 12 of the 16 events to score 307.5 points, a rare level of dominance in any competitive meet. Grand finished a distant second with 72 points, while Gunnison, San Juan and Emery rounded out the top five.

The competition on the boy’s side of the track was closer, but still ended in Carbon’s favor. Taking home first place in four events, the boy’s ended with 200 points. Emery finished second with 135 points, followed by Grand, San Juan and Gunnison.

Eminie Elliot set the tone for the Lady Dinos as she captured first place in all four of her events. Topping the field in the 100 meter hurdles, 100 meters and the long jump, she joined forces with Lyndee Mower, Amiah Timothy and Haylee Prescott for first place in the 4X100.

The relay was just the beginning for Prescott, who also finished at the top for high jump and 200 meters. Prescott was also second in the long jump as she defeated teammate Elizabeth Marshall for a Carbon 1-2-3 finish.

Hayley Garrish helped push Carbon’s point total with the top finishes in the shot put and discus. Beverly Lancaster won both the 3200 meters and 800 meters. Mia Crompton was first in the 400 meters and Tymber Bennett topped all in the javelin.

The Carbon boy’s team relied on depth scoring to capture their impressive 200 point total. The performance was truly a team effort as the Dinos claimed top finishes by seven different athletes.

Braxton Ware defeated teammate Easton Humes to take home first place in the 800 meters. Ware posted a finishing time of 2:12.04, just topping teammate Easton Humes at 2:16.05.

The 4X400 team consisting of Pierce Bryner, Kobe Cruz, Easton Humes and Will Carmichael ended at 3:49.42 for a first place finish. Bowden Robinson took home first in the javelin and Carson Shepherd claimed first place in the discus.

Carbon will now shift its focus to the lone home meet of the season with the Farm Bureau Invitational this Saturday. The field will be steep as the Dinos will host a group of schools including 5A Uintah, Union, Juan Diego and Emery.
