The Dino soccer team earned their first win of the season last Friday in St. George at a tournament when they took care of business against American Leadership Academy 6-2. On Tuesday they were on the road again looking for another win as they faced the Richfield Wildcats. In the region opener for both teams, Carbon walked away the winner 3-1.
Carbon took the season series last year against the Wildcats, who finished with a 7-7 record and ended the season with a first round loss to Emery. This year new coach Bradley Shaw has four returners from last season and will be looking to improve on last year’s offensive numbers that saw them average less than two goals per game and the No. 8 defense that gave up almost two goals per contest.
Richfield was the first team to put a goal on the board in the first half holding Carbon scoreless.
In the second half Carbon found their offense putting up three goals, two from the foot of Miguel Ordonez, and held the Wildcats scoreless to take the win.
Jackson Smith found the back of the net once, Zac Chappell and Jackson Griffeth each added an assist.
Ben Evensen scored the lone goal for the Wildcats, with Parker Graham adding the assist in the loss.
Up next for the Dinos is a evening date with the Emery Spartans in Castle Dale. Last year the Dinos swept the season series with the Spartans.
The next home game for Carbon is set for Mar.24 when they will welcome Grand.
The contest with the Spartans will be played under the lights at Emery High School, start time is set for 7 p.m..
