This week’s Carbon School District weekly update shines a light on the Preschool Program that the district offers. Preschool Coordinator, Beverly Martinez took some time from her busy schedule to share all the details of the Preschool Program.

There are several different Preschool Programs located inside most of the elementary schools. “We have Sally Mauro has a preschool and Stacy Turpin is the teacher there. At Creekview Elementary has a preschool and Raquel Adams is the teacher there. Wellington Elementary has a preschool and Torie Snyder is the teacher there and out at Bruin Point we have Tammy Edwards is the teacher there. Then of course Castle Valley Center is our school for kids with disabilities, and we have Christina Schade and Carrie Timothy as our teachers up there at Castle Valley Center,” said Beverly. The school at the Castle Valley Center is strictly for students who may have developmental delays.

Currently, the program is preparing for registration for the 2022-2023 school year and will be contacting parents who has been on the waiting list. “There’s been people calling for a year and getting their kid on the waitlist and the end of March is typically when I call and start having people go in and pay the registration fee. Once they pay the registration fee, after they’ve been called, that will save their slot for next year. I just call down the waitlist in the order that people have called in and asked that their child be put on the wait list,” stated Martinez. The registration fee for preschool is $20.00 plus monthly tuition. The registration fee must be paid now and the monthly tuition will be due each month while child is in the program. The tuition for a 3-year-old is $50.00 per month and the 4-year-old program is $75.00 per month.

There is a section on the Carbon School District website that is dedicated to the Preschool Program. “We do have a preschool page on the district website this year because we did have parents with lots of questions about preschool. So I just wanted to let everybody know that that’s there. On that website, you can get general information about preschool. There’s a link to the Utah Core Standards which basically is what the state outlines that should be taught in preschools. There’s the ages and stages questionnaire that parents can actually fill out and it will show you whether your kid potentially has a developmental delay that might qualify for special education services,” said Martinez. You can also find information about the program as a whole, tuition, and it lists many educational resources.
