
This weekend the Lady Spartans find themselves in St. George to play in the March Warm Up Classic. Five games in three days against teams from Utah and Idaho, starting at 8 a.m. on Friday and ending on Saturday afternoon. On Friday they played three games going 2-1, beginning the day against Bonneville from Washington Terrace and following that game up by taking on another Bonneville team this time from Idaho Falls and wrapping up day one facing Skyline another Idaho Falls school.
Below is a recap of all Friday’s contests:
Bonneville Lakers (Washington Terrace)- Loss- 13-10
The Lady Spartans got on the field early against a 5A team from northern Utah. The Lakers finished last season 11-11 losing to Mountain Ridge in the second round of the playoffs.
On Friday morning the Lakers put up seven runs in the first two innings, the Lady Spartans would answer back in the bottom of the second with six runs and added another two in the third.
Over the next four innings Bonneville outscored Emery 4-2 and earned the 13-10 win.
Madi Bunnell and Madisyn Childs both went 2-3 with Bunnell added a home run, three RBI’s and a run while Childs added an RBI and three runs.
Childs also got the start on the mound going two innings giving up seven runs (three earned) on two hits and struck out one. Cambrie Jensen finished out the contest with four innings of work giving up six runs on eight hits and struck out two.
Bonneville Bees (Idaho Falls)- Win-14-3 (Five Innings)
In game two, it was time to face Bonneville, this time it was the team from Idaho Falls, Idaho. The Bees struggled finding offense all game and were only to come up with three runs in the final two innings.
Emery scored five in the first, three in the third and then finished it off in the top of the fifth adding six runs holding the Bees to just two in the bottom of the inning and ended the game in five.
Bunnell went 2-3 once again with three RBI’s and a run. Tylee Norton went 1-3 with two RBI’s and two runs in the victory.
Jensen got the complete game allowing four hits, one earned run while striking out two on 44 pitches.
Skyline Grizzlies (Idaho Falls)- Win- 10-0 (Five Innings)
In the final game on Friday afternoon, Emery faced Skyline, another school from Idaho Falls. The Spartans made quick work of the Grizzlies in five innings.
The Lady Spartans put up seven in the first two innings, while Childs was great on the hill getting the complete game shutout, striking out 10.
Aspen Taylor and Norton went 2-3 in the win with Norton adding three RBI’s and added two runs with a home run shot and Taylor had two RBI’s with one run. Bunnell had a triple driving in three runs.
The Spartans will pick up again Saturday at noon against Dixie and then end the weekend with Altamont at 2 p.m..
