Three outs away from the third win of the season, the Carbon Dinos suffered a heartbreaking 5-4 loss to 5A Bountiful on a walk off three-run home run on the road Friday afternoon.

Clinging to a 4-2 lead in the bottom of the seventh inning, the Dinos allowed the first two runners to safely reach. Bountiful’s Dallin Maxwell ended the game with a home run over the left field wall off of senior Jordan Fossat.

The walk-off shot was Bountiful’s first and only lead of the game. Despite out hitting their opponent 13-6, runs came at a premium for the Dinos throughout the contest.

Carbon’s offense set the early tone as Keaton Rich brought in Rylan Hart with a two run home run in the second at bat of the first inning. Hart would later bring in one run in the second inning as he scored Beau Vea on an infield ground out.

Bountiful scored one run in the third and another in the fifth to chop the Carbon advantage to one run entering the sixth. The Dinos answered by scoring for the first time since the second inning as Dallyn O’Neil scored James Castro on a double to center field.

A Carbon scoreless top half of the seventh set the stage for Maxwell’s walk off to give Bountiful the win.

Wyatt Falk pitched a solid 4.2 innings for the Dinos, allowing just four hits and one earned run, while also fanning four batters. Fossat pitched the final 1.1 in relief as he allowed two hits to go along with one strikeout.

Falk helped his own cause at the plate as he ended the game 2-4 with two singles. Hart logged a single, double and triple as he ended 3-4 with one RBI. O’Neil also ended with three hits as he finished 3-3 with a double and one RBI. Vea and Chet Anderson both recorded two hits a piece.

The Dinos now sit 2-5 on the young season as they continue to go through a challenging non-region schedule. Of the seven games played so far this season only one has been against 3A competition.

Carbon will next take the field Tuesday at home against Judge Memorial. The second and final game of the week will take place Wednesday against Juab, also at home.

Following this week’s set of games the Dinos will enter Region 12 play on Tuesday, March 29 at home against the Grand Red Devils in a double-header. The two teams will then wrap up the season set on Friday, April 1 in Moab.
