Three top finishes and plenty of depth scoring led to another dominating performance by the Carbon Lady Dinos track and field team Saturday afternoon at home for the Farm Bureau Invitational.
Competing against 14 other schools, the Lady Dinos gathered an impressive 163 points, easily defeating second place Union by 59. Uintah, Juab and Delta rounded out the top five in the highly competitive early season meet.
Beverly Lancaster put together a fantastic afternoon as she finished first place in the 800 meters with a time of 2:36.38. Lancaster also joined Lyndee Mower, Rebecca Swasey and Mia Crompton for the top spot in the sprint medley relay as the team ended with a time of 4:37.4.
Haylee Prescott continued her stellar contribution as she earned first place in the high jump, while adding a second place finish in the long jump to her afternoon.
Carbon managed to grab points in bulk in events such as the 3200 meters. Lancaster and teammates Ellie Hanson and Mariah George finished second, third and fourth to grab 19 points in the event. The depth scoring in several events was too much for any of the competing schools to overcome.
The Carbon boy’s team grabbed fifth place overall as they ended with 68 points. Delta ended as the high scoring team of the afternoon with 127.5 points, defeating second place Juab by 15.5. Richfield and Union completed the top five.
Bradley Wood secured one of the two top finishes for the Carbon boys as he took home the top spot in the shot put. Bowden Robinson also ended first in the javelin.
Carbon has set a blistering pace in the early season. Saturday’s outstanding performance comes following wins for both the boys and girls team at the Red Rock Invitational in Moab on March 12.
Next on the schedule will be the second and final home meet of the season for both teams as they welcome in several schools from around the state. The short track and field schedule will continue throughout the month of April, before the Region 12 and State Championships in May.
