The Utah Foster Care program is in need of foster parents in the area. They are looking for individuals and/or families that are willing to open up their homes to children in need. Castle Country Radio was able to sit down with Area Representative, Kobi Prettyman to speak about the Ask A Single Foster Parent event which will take place online on Thursday, March 24 at 7:00 pm.
“Its an Ask A Foster Parent event where we’ll have single foster parents answering questions that families will have about what it’s like to be a single foster parent, how they navigate some of the things the schedules and requirements and that kind of stuff. All you have to do is go to our website to https://utahfostercare.org/ and you can scroll down to the bottom and look up our events. You can also find us on Facebook at the same Utah Foster Care and click on our events tab on our Facebook page. Then there’s a link to register for the event so that we can get the right people attending,” explained Prettyman.
Some of the organization’s best foster families are led by single parents so this event is a perfect time to learn firsthand about their personal experience. “We have single foster parents that do amazing things with kids and we welcome them to come forward. You know there are some things they need to consider and those are all parts of the questions that get answered for them but we definitely want them to inquire and see if it might work for their family, to be single and a parent. If they’re a single parent already and they have a system that’s working for them, that’s great too,” said Prettyman.
If you have ever considered becoming a foster parent this is the perfect opportunity to learn about the Utah Foster Care Program in the comfort of your own home. “Definitely come and ask the questions, we’ll give you the answers and help you talk to people who have been through it, done it, able to tell you what it’s like in real life to do it. Not just someone trying to talk you into it. We want people to make good decisions and know that it’s going to work for their family. But if they’ve been considering it we definitely want them to come and get what questions or things that might be holding them back, maybe get those things resolved,” said Prettyman. This is a free event for both individuals and families.
