
Emery started slow on Wednesday against Grand, but used two huge innings to put up 14 runs to close out the game and secure the 15-4 win. Three different Spartans earned at least three RBI’s, including Brynlei Luke who went 1-3, hitting a home run, driving in three runs.
After the first inning runs scored by Grand, the Spartans put the clamps on defensively allowing just two more runs in the contest. Madisyn Childs went five innings to get the win giving up four runs (two earned) on four hits while striking out four, throwing 62 pitches.
Emery was down 4-1 going into the top of the fourth inning, that was when the Lady Spartans put six runs on the board, as well as eight in the fifth to solidify the victory.
Offensively, Emery collected 11 hits with Tylee Norton going 3-4 with three RBI’s and Aspen Taylor 2-4 with three RBI’s also. Jalynn Fox had two hits and collected two RBI’s.
Emery sits at 6-3 and put their first region win on the board with the victory over Grand. Up next for the Spartans they will face Canyon View on Friday at home.
This will be the first game between the two schools since Canyon View joined Region 12. Last season they played in the 4A class and earned a 24-7 record, putting together the best offense in 4A as well as the fourth best defense. They lost to Tooele in the championship round. Tooele went on to fall to the eventual 4A champion Bear River in the final.
The game is set for a 3:30 start in Caste Dale.
