The Richfield Wildcats once again earned the top team spot, but Carbon’s Carley West fired an 18-hole total of 100 to lead the Carbon Dinos to a second place finish at the third Region 12 meet of the season Wednesday afternoon at Cedar Ridge Golf Course in Cedar City.

A similar solid team performance from Richfield had four golfers all finish in the 90’s, leading to a team total of 363. The battle for second plac,e and the automatic 3A State Championship bid, heated up as Carbon fired a season-low 436. Canyon View finished in third at 473, followed by Emery’s 476.

West’s day total was complimented by Savanna Rasmussen who closed out the day with a 109. Paige Scovill shot a 111 and Grace Simms finished with a 116. The four scores gives Carbon breathing room for second place, extending their lead for the position to 60-strokes.

While Richfield has created a monumental advantage for the league’s top spot, the race for second place is an important one. The top two teams from each region are guaranteed a spot in the season finale tournament on May 11 and 12.

Kimber Gilbert led the way for Emery as she ended with a 115. Trinity Nielson finished one stroke back with a 116, followed by Cheyenne Bingham’s 120. The team’s fourth score went to Aspen Jensen as she shot a 125.

Despite finishing a season worst fourth place at Wednesday’s meet, the Emery Lady Spartans remain in striking distance for the second spot in the standings.

Three meets remain on the golf regular season schedule as the group of five schools will next travel to Cove View, the homesite of the Richfield Wildcats, on Monday, April 4. A lengthy break will then set the stage for the Carbon Country Club Golf Course on Thursday, April 21.
