
Last Saturday the Carbon High track and field squad traveled to Vernal to take part in the Uintah Invitational. Six other schools from around Eastern Utah participated in the meet and at the end of the day, both the boys and girls teams claimed second place finishes for the Dinos.
On the boys side, it was Union that claimed first place with 152 points, followed by Carbon with 132. Uintah, Duchesne and Tabiona round out the top five
For the girls, host school Uintah nabbed the top finish with 187 points, Carbon took second with 131. Union, Altamont and Duchesne completed the top five teams.
Easton Humes earned a first place finish for the Dinos in the 400 meters with a time of 54.02. Alvaro Zarate grabbed the top spot in the 800 meters with a time of 2:17.3 and team mate Nathan Engar was right behind at 2:29.3 to give the Dinos the one-two finish.
Bowden Robinson was back at it for the Dinos in the throwing events, taking first in javelin and the shot put, and Bradley Wood finished right behind him in second in the shot put as well.
Ambree Jones grabbed a first place finish in the 3200 meters with a time of 13:12.28, Mariah George claimed second place with a time of 13:39.39.
Hayley Garrish once again earned a first place finish in the shot put. Garrish has been outstanding in the event this season.
Next event on the schedule for the Dinos is the Eastern Utah Championships taking place at Union High School on April 22.
After the Championships, Carbon will have two more meets before the Region 12 Championships in Cedar City on May 10. The State Championships will take place the folling weekend at Brigham Young University.
