Our hearts ache as we let you know that we will lay to rest the finest husband, father, son, brother, uncle and friend we could have ever asked for. Clark Robertson Powell, age 88, passed away quietly in his sleep, Saturday, April 9, 2022.

He was born brave, adventurous and full of life to Clark and Edna Robertson Powell on October 29, 1933 in Price, Utah.  Married the love of his life, Mary Claudette Potter in the Salt Lake Temple for time and all eternity on June 25, 1953; they were married for 68 years.

Clark and Claudette were very blessed and proud of their large family; Clark Randy (Tric), Zachary James (Patti), Corey Jacob (Myrna), Gretchen Sue (Ken Miller), Phillip Joseph (Molly), Gabrielle Prudence (Bruce Sherman), and Joshua David; 30 grandchildren and 61 great-grandchildren, with three more on the way.

He is survived by his sister, Sue Ellen Swink.

Clark was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Pat; sister, Janet Jones; and a grandson, Jarom Powell.

Clark had many talents. In the field of prospecting and mineral exploration he had no peer and several major mineral exploration companies said that he could track down any precious metal or mineral, so fast and accurately that it made their college educated geologists look like novices.  The Indians named him Oli Frank (man who walks the mountains).  He was an extremely great hunter and marksman who bagged several record sized deer, some at a very young age.  He also loved to pheasant hunt and enjoyed many other types of hunting.  We were always honored if we had the opportunity to go prospecting or hunting with him.  Many of us learned to pray in the back of his Bronco.  Clark was beyond a professional driver, he was a master of any terrain, whether it be a paved surface, dirt road or off road.  He was also a talented musician who could play the piano by ear, compose his own songs and play songs for hours from memory.  This was amazing because he had giant bear-like hands.

Clark had a very adventurous life and the stories of his childhood and adulthood are novel and motion picture worthy.  Clark on any occasion was the life of the party, whether it was with his children at family outings or with people at any occasion. Clark was the center of attention, and people loved his stories.  He always had most of the people around him, listening to the amazing stories of his life. His children could listen to him for hours as his stories would come to life, as he not only told them, but he acted them out as well.  These stories will be passed down to his children’s children.  Very few stories went without mention of God, his love for God and the protection he had received.  He often told us of times he prayed and the ways God helped him.  He taught us when you truly have faith, God will help you.

Clark had several callings in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  He served many missions for the Church and taught primary to eight-year-olds for 13 years.  The children absolutely loved him.  Clark loves the Lord and has a strong testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.  He often stated that his search for treasure was found with his family.  He taught us that after this life, we will not only have a discussion with our Savior, but we will also be greeted by our forefathers and asked the question, “what have you done with our name?”

Dad often told us what his grandfather said when he knew he would pass, and now he himself has set out to solve the great mysteries of Heaven.  God Be With You Till We Meet Again!

Funeral services for Clark will be Thursday, April 14, 2022, 11:00 a.m., at the Huntington Stake Center.  The family will receive friends at the church Thursday morning at 9:30 a.m.  Burial will be in the Cleveland Town Cemetery.  Arrangements entrusted to Mitchell Funeral Home of Price and Huntington where the friends are welcome to share memories online at www.mitchellfuneralhome.net.
