The Division of Wildlife Resources is always hosting various clinics to the community to either introduce or familiarize them with an outdoor activity. The DWR is excited to host a Beginner Fly Fishing Clinic on Saturday, April 23 at 9:00 am at the Division’s Southeast Regional Office on 310 North Carbonville Road in Price. Castle Country Radio was able to sit down with Conservation Outreach Manager, Aaron Bott to discuss all the details of the upcoming clinic.
“We’ve got a fantastic local angler who helps us out with all our fly-fishing stuff and he’ll be over here teaching us what works on the local waterbodies. Which is phenomenal because there are so many different varieties of flies it can be overwhelming, especially if you are new. This guy knows exactly what you should use in order to catch fish out here. So he’ll be talking about what to use, if you’re interested in buying equipment – what you need to buy,” said Bott. Participants who own fly fishing reels and rods are encouraged to bring their personal gear, however, fishing equipment will be available for those who need it. To participate in fishing, individuals 12 years and older must have a current Utah Fishing License. Licenses can be purchased online at https://wildlife.utah.gov/
The morning session will feature classroom instruction and presentations. This will be followed by an opportunity to put what was learned in the morning session to use at the Carbon County Community Fishing Pond located at the Fairgrounds. “We’re limiting this event to 30 people, just because that’s manageable. You need to got to https://www.eventbrite.com/ and you can look up Beginner’s Fly Fishing 101 and it’s going to be taking place, as you said, here in Price. So register online at https://www.eventbrite.com/” said Bott. Whether this is an introduction to a new activity or just brushing up on the basic practices this is a wonderful opportunity for attendees to gain insight in the art of fly fishing.
