The Emery Spartan track and field team traveled to Richfield to take part in the Nyle Norris Invitational on Saturday. With a total of 13 teams on the boy’s side and 12 on the girls, this meet drew schools from across the state and classifications. The boy’s team claimed a fourth-place finish and the girl’s ended the day in ninth.

Delta ran away with the team win for the boys with 166 points, and Richfield came in second with 118. Panguitch, Emery, and Juan Diego completed the top five.

Delta also claimed the No. 1 spot on the girl’s side with 128.666, followed by North Summit who finished only 15 points behind. Manti, North Sanpete, and Millard made up the rest of the top five spots.

Derek Canterbury scored almost half of Emery’s points with three second-place finishes in the discus, shot put, and javelin. Madox Christman ended the day right behind him in the shot put coming in third, and Parker Abegglen earned a fifth place in the discus.

When it came to distance running, Camdon Larsen claimed two fourth-place finishes in both the 800 and 1600 meters.

For the girl’s team, Whitley Christensen was the only Spartan to claim a top finish for the day with her first place mark in the high jump.

The Spartans head back to the track next Tuesday when they will travel to Duchesne for the Duchesne Invitational and three days later are set to be at the Skyhawk Invitational in Salem.
